The Great Blue Heron

In Flight
171/365
In the ThreeSixtyFive Project, I must choose
only one image from each days shoot.
Some days, I get just one image that I personally
think is that one great "it" shot.
Some days...
..some days I shoot several different subjects.
On those days, I have to choose the favorite
subject and the one great "it" shot.
Art is all subjective and my favorite may not be your favorite.
So.... for this day {171/365}...
I am showing the complete series.
I have shot this GBH many, many times.
Ever since the very first time I saw him fishing
in the marshes of the pond at Freedom Florence,
last November, I've been stalking him.
I feel this series is my Personal Best, and wanted to share
all of the images. In all of my previous attempts, I've never gotten
the clear, detailed face shots that I got on this day.
He was stalking fish...
I was stalking him.
All was quiet and I was the only human out there.

This bird is not only stunning in it's Grace and Beauty,
but it's focus and concentration while feeding is Amazing.
Even though he was earnestly seeking food, he knew I was there,
hiding behind the trees.
I am so thankful that he allowed me to get as close as he did.
All of the images in this series only took about half an hour of shoot time.
I very quietly and discreetly followed him as he, very
quietly and discreetly stalked fish for his lunch.
I enjoyed watching him, though after I'd gotten
what I knew would be sufficient to choose my
Picture of the Day...
I left him alone to fish and enjoy his catch(es) in Peace.

I hope that you enjoy this super special series
of this most magnificnt bird.
Please click on the images to view them large
to appreciate his Splendor and Fierce Beauty.

I saw this guy in someone's yard on my way home from the pond...weird...
He was injured and was hopping around. Some mockingbirds were trying to dive bomb him,
then finally, he flew away.
you need to see this large to appreciate his red head...and lovely face!

I spent the weekend at the Beach with my Sister ..
I had a session with Will from Model Mayhem, then I went in search of these guys!
I have several shots of one of the Great Blue Heron's that live at the pond where I walk, I see him almost every day. But I don't have many of the Great White Egrets that I love so much.

Gold and Light

Sometimes...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I feel the need...
the need to just disappear
Just to go away .. to take a walk
to keep walking...
with my face to the setting sun
this side of Heaven
into the golden light, and pink and think...
to immerse myself in delight
Hootie Hoot...
I couldn't resist, when I saw this big guy, it so reminded me of Men in Black...
I'm not sure why, it just looks sooooo alien ... and it is a big black bug, so...
Walking just after Sunset...something large and swooshy flew directly overhead
and landed on a branch just behind me about five feet up. I had no idea at first what it was.
It did not make a sound.
I turned and looked up in the trees and there, practically right over my head was this huge owl.
I'd never even seen one before that was not in captivity.
It was completely amazing! But. God is an amazing Creator.
Since it was well into the magic hour and I was hand holding (sans tripod)...
I decided to use flash. And I am so glad I did, because I would not have gotten the shot otherwise. There was barely any light under the treeline. I had one more shot of him but I inadvertantly deleted it, so I'll post it again...
The only editing done on this boy was to remove the red eye caused by the flash ...
and to sign my name..
Please click on the image to view it larger...It is so cool!
and look for the other shot of him/her, in my next post.
