2014 . . . Happy New Year . . . The Lucky 13 . . .

I wish you all, the very Best, Healthiest and Happiest New Year.
Thank you so much for dropping by.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every year I try to choose just ten of my best/favorite photos from the year.
That is daunting.
For one thing I literally have thousands of photos to peruse by the end of a year.
and I don't ever, even begin before Christmas.
note to self:
Choose one photo at the end of each month and file it away for the end of the year.
Yes!
That could certainly work.
IF I would "just do it".
Just like it would be so easy to back up my files...(on the regular)
IF I would "just do it".
However . . .
I am the Queen of Procrastination,
and hold court over "why do today, what can be put off till tomorrow ".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, anyway I chose for your viewing pleasure, what I am calling The Lucky 13.

I don't do luck... don't even believe in luck, it's just a title.
There are thirteen photos.
Lucky, because I chose 47 and whittled it down to The Lucky 13.
.
Some days I think I'm not much of a photographer.
Yet, the feelings evoked at seeing a graceful Heron Dance,
or the sun setting golden or fiery red over the waters edge,
or the flutter of butterfly wings,
as I press the shutter and capture that single, fleeting moment, forever in time,
is like no other.
Bliss and contentment ... lost in the moment...
Grateful.
Blessed.
For having witnessed the beauty of God's Creation once more in His beautiful light
.
 The Lucky 13 may not be the best or maybe not even the most favored...
they are the ones that made the cut.
I did try to choose the best and most favored...
but sometimes the emotion(s) and feelings I felt at the time I made a particular photograph
may have caused a much less than stellar photo to be chosen.
.
It was my original intention to not use any photographs of my children or grandchildren, or even my new pup. But I kept bumping into the photo of my first grandson after receiving his diploma
at Graduation
with four years of 4.0
and I simply couldn't help myself.
.
I hope you'll take the time to view them and enjoy them,
and maybe even take a moment to comment
in the comment section below.
Maybe even share them with your friends.

there will also be a link on facebook for sharing.
So . . .
No more words... on to the Lucky 13

I have Fallen Back.....

Ugh... I despise the time change in Fall. Everyone always talks about gaining an hour... really???
We have NOT gained an hour.
We have LOST an hour; of every day till Spring when we go back on Daylight Savings Time.
Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't appreciate the longer nights,
I just appreciate the longer days more.

Oh well, Cie la Vie!
                                                                  .......................................

Here's what I shoot in daylight....

Here's what I shoot at the end of a nice long day....

Here's what I shoot when the days are short!
                                                                     .............................
Not that I don't LOVE making their sweet photo...
I just sometimes have to make the photo of the day, inside, with flash.

A Second's Glance

A Continuation in my Black and White Series of a Long Life

[...with a couple in color...]

As this is a photo with American flags,
I felt this funkyfied color version worked better than black and white
I also bookended the 23rd Psalm in Color

I Caught a Glimpse

..........................
I received a package in the mail today.
I couldn't imagine what it was.
I hadn't ordered anything.

I opened it with much anticipation.
It's a Beautiful Book.
A Lovely Book.
..........................
Vivien Maier
"Out of the Shadows"

"It's the start of the day
Ginko leaves dot the sidewalk.
Sneakers sit by the front door.
Gardening gloves wait, and
tomatoes ripen on the windowsill.
The children are off at school as
Vivien Maier surveys the world
with her camera in the
early morning light."
............

"She was a humanist in the best tradition,
she showed real life, and that's so difficult to do."
 --Mary Ellen Mark

Still not knowing who this lovely book came from, I immediately sat to devour it.
.....................

Vivien Maier 1926-2009
 "An amateur photographer whose work has thrilled the world since it's discovery..."

On looking at the precious few photographs represented of reportedly more than a hundred thousand,
I was surely thrilled.
I admire her photographic style.
The people and places in her photographs are nothing short of fascinating.
An esoteric set. Made in a completely different era.
Times have changed.
Personal and societal changes.
Styles, architecture, attitudes, and cameras.

Vivien Maier was virtually unknown for her work as a photographer.
Very few of her photographs "were seen by others during her lifetime.
--carefully tucked away in bedrooms, basements, and garages of homes where she was
a live-in caregiver.
Eventually she had to move her possessions into storage.
At the time, she was impoverished, living on her own
in a small apartment not far from the storage facility.
When she fell behind on the monthly payments, she was notified that her belongings
would be sold, but she failed to respond.
The contents of her lockers-truckloads of trunks and boxes filled with newspapers, magazines and personal effects, as well as her photo negatives, slides and undeveloped rolls of film; were purchased in 2007 for $250.00 by a Chicago auctioneer."
............................................

I was inspired, to say the very least.
I put on my 50mm and started shooting, with my own black and white series in mind.
(please click on the first photograph to view all photos large.)
Kevin, Thank You so much, for the book.
I love it and will treasure it always.
xoxo
